Ryan Howard Visits Ballfield He's Helping Renovate

Phillies' slugger Ryan Howard knocked one out of the park on Wednesday afternoon in Hunting Park.

KYW's John Ostapkovich reports that Howard was greeted like a baseball star as he arrived at the ballfield he agreed more than a year ago to help renovate.

It's a $500,000 project that will replace the bedraggled existing facility across the street from Little Flower High School with a baseball showplace:

"And I'm pleased to announce that we will provide an additional $50,000 for this project."

Howard (in light grey suit and baseball cap) is not the only benefactor.  The Fairmount Park Conservancy and Citizens Bank lead a long list of contributors.

Philadelphia parks and recreation commissioner Mike Deberardinis:

"More and more, you need a lot of partners to do big things. Having the conservancy to work with us, getting the Howard Family Foundation is big, Citizens Bank.  It's really a business model we want to continue to replicate all over the city."

First pitch at the new ballfield is next spring.
