Ryan Howard Returns To Spring Training
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – We were never able to settle on whether Ryan Howard had a "setback" in his recovery from Achilles surgery. We do know he hasn't been with the team since his visit to a doctor in Baltimore two weeks ago.
Howard returned to the Phillies clubhouse in Clearwater today for the first time since he was diagnosed with an infection in the surgery's wound.
The first baseman was still wearing the walking boot that doctors put him in to promote healing and protect the wound from further infection.
94WIP host and Phillies Spanish language play by play broadcaster Rickie Ricardo says that Howard will continue to wear the boot for another four to seven days. "Ruben Amaro told me he'd wear it another seven to ten days, and that was on Sunday," Ricardo said.
The team did say that the infection did not compromise Howard's surgically repaired Achilles tendon.
