Rutgers Will Get Outside Review Of Basketball Coaching And Scandal Response

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBS) -- Rutgers University is hiring an independent adviser to review the coaching abuse scandal surrounding its men's basketball program.
Former Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice was fired after video of him hitting and taunting his players surfaced (see related story).
And now, Rutgers University president Robert Barchi and the school's board of governors say they want an in-depth review of coaching behavior in the men's basketball program.
The leadership will meet Thursday to discuss the process for identifying an independent adviser to conduct this review.
The reviewer will look at how the university handled Rice after they were made aware what was later characterized as inappropriate behavior, and they will make recommendations on how the university can improve on handling such matters in the future.
The widening scandal also led to the resignation of Tim Pernetti, the university athletic director.
