Rutgers School Of Law In Camden Sanctioned, Fined By ABA

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - The American Bar Association sanctioned and fined Rutgers University School of Law in Camden this week for violating admission standards.
According to a press release issued by the ABA on Wednesday, Rutgers-Camden Law School accepted students who took standardized graduate school tests other than the LSAT.
The ABA claims Rutgers failed to get a "variance" to use alternate test scores, so it fined the school $25,000. It is also publicly censuring the school requiring that notice of the sanctions be posted online.
Rutgers-Camden Law School spokesperson Cathy Donovan wrote an email to KYW Newsradio on Friday saying the GRE and GMAT have been used as substitutes for the LSAT for years, and Rutgers Camden used practice from 2006 to 2012, when it suspended the practice.
Donovan says the school accepts the sanction and fine and admits it was negligent by failing to get ABA permission to use alternative tests.
She adds applicants who took alternate tests and were accepted were both successful in law school and on the bar exam.
