Rutgers-Camden Considers Expanding To India
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Rutgers-Camden is looking to expand the university to one of the fastest growing, youngest nations - India.
Top Rutgers-Camden officials have just returned from a week-long visit to lay the groundwork.
While in New Delhi, the dean of the Rutgers school of business in Camden, Jaishankar Ganesh, said the Indian parliament was considering a bill that would open the education sector there to foreign universities, "We thought it was very relevant for us to be engaging the Indian market. What form or shape, it'll take awhile to figure that out."
Ganesh and Rutgers-Camden chancellor Wendell Pritchett were part of the U.S. delegation in Mumbai, when President Obama gave his recent speech.
Mr. Obama referenced the enormous young population of India, where about 550 million people are under the age of 25, "It's the fastest growing youth population in the world."
He says it would advance Rutgers's strategic commitment to international education, with programs for students in the U.S. as well as attracting students who live in India.
