Ruben Amaro 'Not Trading Anyone' But 'Never Say Never'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It isn't the first time a general manager has given conflicting information about trading one of his players. If you're running a professional baseball team, sometimes you can't be completely honest about what's going on behind closed doors.
It would seem that Ruben Amaro is in that very position right now.
"Yes. I'm not trading anyone," is the response that CBS Sports' Jon Heyman received from via text message from Amaro responding to a request for an interview.
"I never say never. But it's our job to win, and these are guys who are hard to replace,'' Amaro then told Heyman on the phone in regard to Cliff Lee and Jonathan Papelbon.
"Not trading anyone," and "never say never," would seem to be statements that contradict each other. It seems more like Amaro trying to set the market high, rather than actually saying he won't trade either player.
