Roxborough HS Students Mourn Loss Of Classmate In Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Students at Roxborough High School are mourning the death of a star basketball player.
Rashawn Anderson's basketball jersey was draped over his spot on the bench yesterday afternoon as his Roxborough High Indians won their playoff game.
His family says he dreamed of playing in the NBA one day, but police say the 18-year-old was shot multiple times in the head on Monday night in the Abbottsford Homes complex, in Hunting Park (see previous story and video).
Fellow students say it's tough to swallow.
"Rashawn, he knew everybody. Everbody was hurt that he died and the way that he was executed, and everything -- it left everyone in tears," said one.
Anderson's teammates voted to play yesterday's playoff game rather than call it off, bowing their heads for a moment of silence before tip-off.
Police are investigating whether an ongoing neighborhood spat played a role in his death. Classmates say it's time to stop the senseless violence.
