Rowdy Roddy Piper To Attend 25th Anniversary Screening Of 'They Live' In Philadelphia
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – I have come here to chew bubblegum and...
You probably know how the rest of that line goes if you clicked on this one.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper starred in what is probably the best movie ever featuring a professional wrestler (edging Rocky III), They Live. A movie about a man (Piper) in the future, who finds a sunglasses that allow him to see that most of the rich people keeping the poor people down are aliens. I probably didn't sell it enough there. It's awesome.
There is a fight scene in an alley that is worth the price of admission.
In any case, Piper will be in town for a Philly screening of They Live as part of Awesomefest as Molly Eichel of the Daily News first reported. It's the 25th anniversary of the legendary film.
Awesomefest is a citywide music and film celebration of the 80's, and also features a performance from the Pyschedelic Furs, and screenings of Purple Rain, Stand By Me, Police Academy, Pretty In Pink, and a bunch of other great movies.
The screening of They Live will be at the Trocadero, on July 21st. There are no details on tickets just yet, but Molly assures me that there will be meet and greet packages to say hello to Piper.
