Rowan University To Offer Fast Track Bachelor's Degree At A Discount
By David Madden
GLASSBORO, N.J., (CBS) -- A South Jersey university has come up with a plan for undergraduate students to get their diploma in less time, and save a good chunk of money at the same time.
Starting next fall, Rowan University will offer students the chance to earn the 120 credits needed for a Bachelor's degree in three years, instead of four. You'd have to take classes in the summer to make it work.
Now while some students already do that, Rowan spokesman Joe Cardona says those who take part in this program get a deal. "We've built in an incentive to give students free tuition and housing in those summers," Cardona told KYW Newsradio.
That shaves some $22,000 off the bottom line.
But there's a catch. You have to live on campus. Cardona says, "The plan right now is for residential students because it is so intense, the amount of courses that you need to take, that it's best if you're here on campus."
He estimates about 100 students will sign up for the program when it starts next fall.
As for students who commute to the Glassboro campus, the university is still looking into that.
