2 killed in Route 55 accident today in Gloucester County, New Jersey
MANTUA TWP., N.J. (CBS) — Two adults were killed in a wrong-way head-on accident on Route 55 today in Mantua Township in Gloucester County, according to New Jersey State Police.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and the state police investigation closed Route 55 North between Exit 48 (Ellis Street, Glassboro) and Exit 53 (Woodbury-Glassboro Road) for hours.
State police said one of the cars was traveling the wrong way on the freeway when it collided with another, killing both drivers.
Traffic in the southbound lanes was "heavily congested due to a contraflow setup from the northbound side," Gloucester County Emergency Management wrote on Facebook.
