Route 202 Widening Project Moves Further South

CHESTERBROOK, Pa. (CBS) -- The next phase of reconstruction and widening of Route 202 is getting under way this week.
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says drivers who use Route 202 have been putting up with construction from the Chesterbrook area to Route 401 for the past two years (see related story). He says the construction zone will now be expanded from Route 401, south to the Route 30 interchange.
Blaum says crews begin nighttime and overnight work this week to expand Route 202 to six lanes in Chester County.
"The contractor will be rebuilding the northbound right shoulder on Route 202, from Route 30 out to Route 401, because that shoulder will become part of a travel lane in the later stage of construction, when the two northbound lanes are shifted eight feet to the right as we begin work on the median on that section of 202."
Blaum says there will also be construction work going on simultaneously in the area of Routes 401 and 202, where drainage pipes are to be installed throughout the interchange, underneath existing ramps.
