Route 168 Bridge Construction Almost Complete In South Jersey
By David Madden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you use the Black Horse Pike near 295 in Camden County, you'll be relieved to know that crews have finished repairing the bridge over the interstate.
Even non-rush hours have been a pain since last summer for tens of thousands of drivers who use that span as four lanes of traffic were reduced to two.
NJ DOT spokesman Tim Greeley says the wait is finally over. "The main impetus of the project, obviously, was to rebuild and reconstruct the structurally deficient bridge deck running over an interstate highway. The contractor has essentially completed that work."
Save for some cleanup and line painting, all at a cost of $2.3 million, the four lanes are back on the Black Horse Pike.
Next the state's just starting an eight year, $900 million project to totally re-do the interchange where 295, 76 and 42 meet and that will, in time, create its own traffic nightmare.
