Rough Winter Ahead For The Northeast?
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Over the past two weeks the Northeast has been hit by some very opposite weather patterns.
On October 29th, Superstorm Sandy came ashore near Atlantic City. Nine days later the east coast was hit by a snow storm.
Is this the new normal?
Frank Galgano, associate professor and chair of the Geography and Environment department at Villanova, says not really. He says each year we have an average 6 hurricane-like storms.
"We have 12 or 13 nor'easters each year, so in the overlap month of November, it is certainly possible and it has happened several times in the past," Galgano explains.
As for what we can expect in the next few months, Galgano says he doesn't expect a repeat of last year.
He says Europe actually had a rough winter last year, and he expects we'll get that kind of cycle this go-round.
