Rollins Won't Waive No Trade Unless Phillies Are A 'Disaster'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – He's said it before, and he's saying it again. Jimmy Rollins wants to be the Phillies' all-time hit leader, and there is very little chance of him waiving his no-trade clause.
"There's only 30 guys that are their team's leader in hits," Rollins told Comcast Sportsnet's Jim Salisbury on Sunday. "It's a pretty high honor."
Rollins is currently fourth on the team's all-time hit list, but first is within striking distance. Rollins' 2175 trails Ed Delahanty's 2213, Richie Ashburn's 2217, and Mike Schmidt's 2234.
All-time hits isn't the only team record that is within striking distance for arguably the best shortstop in the organization's history. Rollins is second in stolen bases, just 83 behind Billy Hamilton, a number Rollins could hit if he's a full-time Phillie for the next two seasons. Rollins could get to second all-time in runs scored, 120 behind Delahanty.
Rollins is already the team's all-time leader in doubles, and second all-time in games played, behind only Schmidt.
While the future for the Phillies seems uncertain, it would take more than uncertainty for Rollins to waive his no-trade clause after he reaches the hit record.
"If we're in absolutely last place with nowhere to go and change is obviously on the horizon, then at that point I'd think about it," Rollins said to Salisbury. "But anything short of a complete disaster, I'm wearing red and white pinstripes."
Rollins is signed through the 2014 season, and has a vesting option for 2015 if he accrues 600 plate appearances this year, or a combination of 1100 between 2013 and 2014, which means Rollins needs only 441 in 2013 for the option to vest. The vesting option is worth $11 million.
