Rollins To Disabled List With Groin Strain, Polanco Activated
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Phillies placed shortstop Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a right groin strain.
Rollins suffered the injury on Sunday in Washington while fielding a ground ball from Nationals catcher Jesus Flores in the second inning.
Rollins stayed in the game initially, but was replaced by Wilson Valdez in the third.
The former MVP missed nearly half of the season last year with right calf strains, but had played in all but four of Philadelphia's games this season.
Rollins was hitting .268 with 14 home runs, 58 RBI and 79 runs scored before getting hurt.
To fill his spot on the roster, the Phillies activated third baseman Placido Polanco from the DL.
Polanco had been out since August 7 with a sports hernia. It was his second stint on the disabled list this season. He missed 19 games in July with inflammation in his lower back.
The Phillies began a three-game series at home against the Mets on Monday night. New York was also without its starting shortstop. Jose Reyes remained sidelined with a hamstring injury.
