Rod Thorn Rated Third Worst Drafting General Manager In The NBA

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The NBA Draft is Thursday night, and the Sixers have the 15th pick. Sixers president and general manager Rod Thorn has been quoted recently, giving his opinion on who the Sixers could choose, and if they might make a trade to move up. One may ask the question, "just how good is Rod Thorn at drafting players anyway?" One man's answer is, "not so good."
CBS Sports college basketball insider Jeff Goodman came up with a scoring system that ranks NBA GM's on their drafting prowess. Thorn ranked 19th out of the 21 who were eligible.
Goodman explained the scoring system this way:
We've rated every single player, put them into a category (elite, perennial all-star, occasional all-star, solid starter, quality reserve, rotation guy, bench and overseas/out of the league).
Then we've given them a numerical value from 1 to 10 based on where they were drafted.
For perspective's sake, Thorn's raw score in Goodman's system is a 1.02, the best score goes to OKC's Sam Presti, who received a 2.79. The two scores worse than Thorn's are Memphis Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace, who received a .95, and Minnesota's David Kahn, who got a .50.
All that said, recent developments within the Sixers would suggest that head coach Doug Collins would have a lot (if not most) if the say in the pick, as this will be Thorn's last season as team president and general manager. So Thorn's history may not matter at all.
