Rockstar To Perform At Fundraiser For Charity That Helps Teens Deal With Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A legendary rocker will be in concert at the Kimmel Center on Monday night. It's a fundraiser for a charity that helps teenagers deal with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Roger Daltrey of The Who has made it a pet project.
"There's kind of a theory there's no proper place to put teens when they're diagnosed with cancer. They either put them in with the children or the adults and that's not really a good environment," says Howard Jaffe.
Jaffe, an attorney in Bala Cynwyd and one of the founders of "Teen Cancer America" says they create zones in hospitals geared toward that age group.
"We've tried to repaint the walls to give them less of a hospital feel. We've put in furniture to give it less of a hospital environment. We put the flat screens up, we make sure they have Wi-Fi access, they have laptops. In some of the facilities, we try to put in a kitchen area, so they can actually feel like they're home."
Jaffe says The Who has supported the UK-based Teenage Cancer Trust for 20 years.
Daltrey's appearance, along with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, at Verizon Hall on Monday will help set up one of those teen zones next year at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.
