Roadwork On Schuylkill Expressway Will Make Getting To Sports Complex Difficult
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - PennDOT is advising drivers to avoid the lower part of the Schuylkill Expressway this weekend as a route to the sports complex where lots of activity is scheduled.
Road crews are going to be out there starting tonight and through the weekend doing more permanent repairs to a section of the expressway damaged by the heat a few weeks ago.
PennDOT's Charlie Metzger says crews have no choice but to get out there and restrict traffic to one lane this weekend to.
"Repair and resurface the concrete on a short portion of the structure that carries Route 76 over the Schuylkill River, the railroad tracks, 34th Street and Gray's Ferry Avenue. And the concrete resurfacing operation on the eastbound side is in the area of where the pavement suffered the blowup on June 8."
The work will also involve the westbound lanes starting early Saturday morning.
Metzger says it wasn't a planned thing to interfere with traffic heading to the Phillies game and the Katy Perry concert tonight, the Phillies game and Philadelphia Soul arena football game tomorrow night, and the Phillies game on Sunday.
He says drivers should use alternates such as the Blue Route to Interstate 95 north, or get off the Schuylkill Expressway at Vine Street and follow that to 95 southbound. Coming from Bucks County area, just stay with 95 southbound.
