Road Crews, Mass Transit Ready To Deal With Latest Winter Storm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With another winter storm in the works, all eyes are on the roads, mass transit and the public utilities.
As always, getting around on the roads can be tricky during a winter storm, but PennDOT says it spent most of Sunday gearing up for an overnight assault on the roads, and spokesman Charles Metzger says PennDOT will have its full fleet on the move.
"We're going to have a force of 415 trucks out in the Philadelphia region to attack this storm," he says. "We're going to go out in front and put some salt down when the snow starts and then we'll be able to continue to plow as the storm progresses."
For those who rely on Mass Transit, SEPTA says it will not be offering any express, Hughes Park, or Bryn Mawr service Monday.
Amtrak says service will be available on its Acela Express, Keystone Service, and Northeast Region trains, but they will running with reduced frequency.
New Jersey Transit says all services will be available, except for Access Link Paratransit. NJT also says that Systemwide Cross-Honoring will be in effect, including for private bus carriers.
However, all three are encouraging riders to keep an eye out for updates when the snow starts falling, as delays and detours are very possible. (Click here for traffic and transit information)
Snow isn't usually much of an issue for the local power providers, but PECO is playing it safe. They've already activated their emergency response center, and have brought in extra workers to help deal with any outages or problems that may occur.
