Rising Gas Prices Could Put Wrinkle In Labor Day Weekend Travel Plans

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hurricane Isaac and the impact it's having on gas prices could dampen Labor Day weekend travel plans for some in the Philadelphia region.
AAA Mid-Atlantic's Jenny Robinson calls Hurricane Isaac and gas prices a "wild card."
"They've been rising since early July," Robinson says. "And now we have Hurricane Isaac in the mix and that is already causing some price spikes. So it remains to be seen how much that might affect people's travel plans."
Robinson says AAA surveyed folks a few weeks ago before the storm hit the Gulf Coast and gas prices began their surge.
She says a number of those polled in the Philadelphia region were actually budgeting for higher prices at the pump for the holiday weekend.
Robinson says some people say that won't discourage one final getaway weekend to the beach or the mountains, but many of those who responded to the survey confirmed they'll probably stay within 50 miles of home electing to go out for dinner, visit friends for picnics, or simply do some shopping.
