Rich Zeoli Speaks With LaSalle Communications Professor About The 40th Anniversary Of 'Jaws'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This summer marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the film Jaws in theaters. La Salle University Professor of Communications, Brother Gerard Molyneaux, praised the work of Director Steven Spielberg and said it still connects with audiences after all of these years.
Molyneaux told Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that it is hard to believe the movie came out that long ago.
"It's been a quick 40. Partly because I keep showing that film periodically in my classes and it keeps working. It's still very popular and goes over well with students. They like talking about it. It works."
He also complimented Spielberg's ability to draw movie watchers in on multiple levels.
"It's not just the shark coming out of the water. There's so many moments of suspense and surprise in that film. It's a great balance of the two of them. Really, what's showing up in the movie is the influence of Hitchcock on Spielberg. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is the first scene at the beach where the Mayor says people are going to be okay, we're opening the beaches...Tension keeps building and building."
