Reward Offered For Arrest In Beating Of Community Activist
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A group of state lawmakers and a civic organization in Philadelphia plans to offer a reward today, hoping to spark leads for police investigating the beating of a southwest Philadelphia community activist a week ago.
John Appledorn, of the Citizens Crime Commission of Philadelphia, says his group will join with state Sen. Anthony Williams, Rep. Ronald Waters, and Rep. Kenyatta Johnson, for a news conference this afternoon at the 12th police district in Southwest Philadelphia to announce the reward.
Appledorn declined to release the amount because other groups are being solicited for their help in adding to it.
The reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who broke into 52-year-old Marsha Moore's home along Cecil Street near Kingsessing Avenue last Friday while she was sleeping and beat her with a metal pipe (see related story).
She is preparing to undergo facial reconstructive surgery in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Moore's husband, Robert, is a police chaplain.
