'Revel' Making Way For 'Ten' As Early As 2017

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - After months of talk, there now appears to be some real movement to reopen the former Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority this week gave owner Glenn Straub the green light to proceed with a new site plan for the property. That came after word Straub had signed a 25 year lease with a new management team back in late May.

They've now rebranded the place as "Ten".

The lone Revel holdover is Chief Operating Officer Alan Greenstein.

"We've hired 16 executives," he tells KYW Newsradio. "We meet with Mr. Straub on a daily basis to discuss various subjects. So we are making a lot of progress."

Enough, it appears, to anticipate a grand re-opening in early 2017. How early depends on when Straub can get occupancy permits from Atlantic City and a casino license from the state.

They're also talking with former tenants to get restaurants and clubs back up. And plans are to hire 3,000 people, which will be a big help, given the Taj Mahal's planned shutdown next month.

"People are yearning for this property to open and they want to be part of it," Greenstein said. "We're going to attract a lot of different people of all different ages, including families."

There will also be a decidedly different marketing strategy aimed squarely at gamblers, and not just those on the high end, although Greenstein wouldn't get specific on that.
