Retired Atlantic City Police Officer Victim Of Home Invasion

ATLANTIC CITY (CBS) - Police are investigating an Atlantic City home invasion and robbery that left an 80-year-old retired police officer injured Sunday night.

The incident happened on the 1000 block of North Michigan Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Police say the victim received a knock on his door from a man that helped shovel his driveway during the recent snowstorm. The male asked to use the restroom.

Upon emerging from the restroom, the suspect demanded money from the victim. When the victim refused, the suspect threatened him with a handgun.

Authorities say a struggle took place in the home, but the victim managed to force the male suspect out of the house. However, the suspect stole $250 and fled south on Michigan Avenue and east on Marmora Avenue.

The victim was treated at the scene by medics. Names have not been released as the case remains under investigation.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his late 20s or mid 30s, stocky build, and 6' tall. He was last seen wearing dark clothes, a dark cap, and a 3/4 length coat.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Atlantic City Police Department at (609) 347-5766.
