Restaurateurs Showcase Their Menus Via Instagram

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Undecided about what to order at a restaurant? There's a social media App that's turning into a menu assistant.

Food porn - the popular practice of sharing pictures of your restaurant food - is a social media staple. But now local chefs are also using it to show off their culinary skills and preview new items on the menu.

The free photo-sharing program and social network Instagram, enables users to take a photo, apply a digital filter to it, and then share it with other Instagram users as well as other social networking services like Twitter and Facebook.

"At the Sardine bar we're doing all sandwiches so anytime I put a new sandwich on or change the menu up it's there. A lot of the people are not my friends - they are customers or guests I meet some of them and they become friends because social networking has becomes this weird, platonic OKCupid," says Chef Scott Schroeder of the South Philadelphia Tap Room & American Sardine bar.
