Restaurants Team Up To Fight HIV/AIDS This Thursday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This Thursday, over 200 restaurants will be participating in Dining Out for Life, benefiting thousands of people living with HIV and AIDS.
This is the 21st year for Dining out for Life, (Thursday, April 28th) when over 200 regional restaurants will donate 33% of their profits to the fight against HIV and AIDS. Kevin Burns, executive director of Action Aids, says the profits benefit thousands of men, women and children living with the disease and help increase education and outreach into the community.
"It's estimated that 25% of people who are HIV positive are not aware of their diagnosis, so that's become a real focus for us at ActionAIDS, trying to test more people."
He said it's hoped the event will raise over $200-thousand.
"In Philadelphia, we have over 17,000 people living with HIV and AIDS and the money that we raise with this event will support local services that provide really vital services. We're talking about medical case management, housing, food."
