Resolution Asks For School Board Member Under Fire For Alleged 'Anti-Semitic' Remarks To Step Down
MARLTON, N.J., (CBS) – The Evesham Township Council is calling for a school board member who allegedly made anti-Semitic remarks to step down.
Lawmakers approved a resolution asking Rosemary Bernardi to resign during a council meeting Tuesday night.
Bernardi is under fire for allegedly making a remark described by some as "anti-Semitic" at an Evesham Township's Board of Education meeting in May (See Previous Story).
Evesham Mayor Randy Brown spoke at the council meeting.
"You haven't stood at the ShopRite on a Saturday for three hours and talked to residents about this. None of which have said 'she needs to stay. We're okay with anti-Semitic remarks. It's okay.' No it's not - ever," said Brown.
In May, Bernardi did email an apology and posted on her Facebook page:
"Categorizing individuals on the basis of their religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation has no place in our society, and most especially in our public discourse."
