Residents Of Mercer County Town Shoveling Out After Snowstorm

By Robin Rieger

HAMILTON TWP., N.J. (CBS) - Mercer County residents woke up to a sparkling white winter wonderland Saturday morning with about four inches of snow coating everything in sight.

Shoveling it out of the way was the first chore of the day for Anthony Brenna of Hamilton Township.

"Hopefully it's the last one we have this year," says Brenna. He says he's not a fan because he works all winter delivering oil.

"Not too bad, been worse," says Kim Nir, who was cleaning off her cars.

"I don't mind, I love it. This is the only one we've gotten this year so might as well enjoy it," Nir says.

Their road was plowed but not salted, making early morning driving conditions a bit slick.

Some other streets nearby hadn't seen a plow yet. It didn't bother Tim Moore, his snow blower made quick work of his driveway.

"I got a four wheel drive vehicle," says Moore.

Nearby, Rt. 130 was looking better, Eyewitness News captured plows before dawn, scraping off the slush and salting the highway to make it passable for drivers.

And who wouldn't want a little machine on wheels with a brush in front?

Several of them along with snow blowers were used to make sidewalks clear and safe for shoppers Saturday at the Hamilton Market Place Shops.

Antonio Rocha didn't mind the work.

"It's not that bad, it's not that windy and it's not even that cold, so I think its ok," says Rocha.

Pete Casey, with his plow truck, was piling up snow at private businesses too and piling up a little extra money.

"It's been kind of a slow winter. It's good to get a little work here and there before the spring," says Casey.

Hopefully spring is right around the corner.
