Residents of Kulpsville, Pa. Say Turnpike's Lansdale Exit Is Really Theirs

KULPSVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- What's in a name? Apparently a lot to the supervisors in Towamencin Township (Montgomery County), who tonight are expected to pass a resolution asking for a name change for an interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Dan Littley, chairman of the township supervisors, says it's all about community pride and community being. They are asking the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to approve changing the name of the Lansdale interchange on the Northeast Extension to "Kulpsville" -- which Littley says is how it was identified until the late '70s.
"We need to work with the surrounding communities on what that would look like," he tells KYW Newsradio, "and we're not getting rid of Lansdale off of the sign. We are going to have pointers for Lansdale and Souderton, et cetera, on the sign."
He realizes that something like this doesn't happen overnight. It took several years for the Turnpike Commission to decide to change the "Philadelphia" interchange in Bucks County to "Bensalem."
Oh, and then there's the Lansdale Borough Council, which apparently is not too fond of the proposed name change.
