Reports: Phils In Talks With Texas To Acquire 3B Michael Young
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – According to several reports, the Phillies are in talks to acquire Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young.
With the MLB winter meetings going on in Nashville, reports are indicating that the Phillies and Rangers are engaged in talks that would send the 36-year-old Young to Philadelphia.
Young, who is a career .301 hitter, is coming off of one of his worst seasons in the big leagues. Young hit .277 and only hit eight home runs last season. Young can also fill in at first base if needed.
The reports say the Rangers want a major-league reliever and a prospect, and would eat half of Young's $16-million salary.
As it stands now, the options to play third base for the Phillies this coming season are Kevin Frandsen and possibly even Freddy Galvis.
