Reporter Nancy Phillips Talks About Allegations Against Bill Conlin
By Jim Osman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Hall of Fame Daily News sports columnist Bill Conlin is accused by his own niece, two other woman and a man, of molesting them in the 1970s when they were between the ages of 7 and 12.
Inquirer reporter Nancy Phillips, who broke the story Tuesday, says the victims reached out to her to report their story.
Phillips says the Penn State sex abuse scandal convinced Conlin's alleged victims that it might be best for them to speak publicly. (See Related Story)
She says the fact that the alleged abuse happened 40 years ago didn't cause skepticism because experts say it's not uncommon for issues to surface years later.
Phillips was on with SportsRadio 94 WIP's Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow Wednesday afternoon. Listen To The Interview:
Paul Lauricella, who is a lawyer for three of the alleged victims, says the statements of all the alleged victims make the evidence of abuse "impressive".
Conlin's attorney says Conlin was "floored" by the allegations.
Conlin is an award-winning sports columnist. He resigned his position the day the molestation allegations surfaced.
