WWE Confirms Philadelphia's Interest In Hosting Wrestlemania
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial field is one of the top contenders to host WWE's Wrestlemania in 2015 or 2016, according to a report.
Wrestlechat.net reports that both Lincoln Financial Field, and Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California are the top two contenders for the events. Levi's Stadium will host the Super Bowl in 2016.
Wrestlemania was held outdoors at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium this year, and the success is said to have opened the door to other potential cold weather stadiums.
CBS Philly asked the WWE for comment on the report, and their response was the following:
Philadelphia is one of the many cities that has expressed an interest in hosting a future WrestleMania. An announcement regarding WrestleMania 31 will be made early next year.
It wouldn't be the first Wrestlemania in the area, Wrestlemania XV was at the Wells Fargo Center (then First Union Center), and Wrestlemanias IV and V were in Atlantic City.
There is reportedly one other northeastern city being considered for the event, thought to be either Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Foxboro Stadium, or FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.
