By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The NBA has fined Spencer Hawes and four other players $15,000 each for playing in an unsanctioned alumni game at the University Of Washington, according to a report from Yahoo Sports.
Hawes, along with Quincy Pondexter and Tony Wroten of the Memphis Grizzlies, and Sacramento Kings guard Isaiah Thomas were fined for participating in game at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle on June 23rd.
There are times that I have felt like Hawes should have been fined for playing basketball, but that was while he was playing in league sanctioned games for the Sixers.
The league CBA states that players can not play in public offseason games without league approval between September 15th and July 1st.
Hawes attended and played for the University Of Washington in 2006 and 2007, before being selected in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. He is under contract to the Sixers for the upcoming season.
