Report: Sixers Want NBA To Delay New Lottery System
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A couple of weeks ago it was reported that the NBA submitted a proposal to reform the draft lottery system. Now, a new reports says the Sixers are fighting lottery renovations.
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Wednesday, the Sixers are "hoping to get the NBA to delay the plan's implementation for at least a year because it would act as a de facto punishment while just playing by the rules that have been in place."
However, sources tell Windhorst that the support may be hard to come by for Sixers. Other NBA teams are upset with the Sixers strategy to struggle, because it is hindering the revenue of a big market team.
The Sixers finished 19-63 last season and currently have more than $30 million in cap space. With the No. 3 an No.10 picks in this year's NBA draft, the Sixers selected Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. Embiid is recovering from an injury and could miss the entire 2014-15 season, while Saric is expected to play two more seasons in the Turkish Basketball League.
