Report: Sixers To Sign Former Temple Star Khalif Wyatt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Khalif Wyatt showed flashes scoring prowess during his time with the Sixers at the Orlando Summer League. Those flashes, along with his impressive Temple career and work ethic, seem to have paid off.
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey reports that the Sixers have agreed to terms with Wyatt on a multi-year, partially guaranteed contract. The structure of the deal seems to be low risk for the Sixers, who would be unlikely to owe Wyatt significant money if he doesn't make the team. The fact that the deal is multi-year indicates that the Sixers would be able to keep Wyatt at a low cost for several years if he does happen to work out.
Wyatt's numbers at Temple improved every year that he was there, finishing his senior season averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He was the Atlantic-10 player of the year in his final season as an Owl. Wyatt scored 13.8 points per game for the Sixers during Summer League play.
The Sixers backcourt, most notably at the shooting guard and small forward positions, looks to be a wide open race, that Wyatt could find himself in the middle of if he's able to impress at training camp. Jason Richardson is unlikely to play this year, leaving Evan Turner as the only player on the team who has played significant minutes at the shooting guard position in the NBA. Wyatt will join Tony Wroten and James Anderson as players who will vying for backcourt minutes.
