Report: Ravens Knew Details Of Rice Video In February
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The entire Ray Rice situation has revolved around information reaching the general public after it appears that it may have been seen by others. That may be continuing as ESPN's Outside The Lines reported on Friday night that Ravens team executives knew what happened inside that Revel Casino elevator.
According to the report, the Ravens Director of Security Darren Sanders was given a detailed account of the incident that occurred in the elevator by a Revel security employee in the early morning hours of February 15th.
The account outlined the video that the general public recently became aware of. The reports also states that Sanders shared everything that he knew with Ravens executives in Baltimore. The report outlines the steps in the process taken by key figures, Team President Dick Cass, Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti, Head Coach John Harbaugh, General Manager Ozzie Newsome and Rice's attorney Michael Diamondstein.
The Ravens insisted that no one in their organization was aware of exactly what transpired in the elevator, but according to the report, Diamondstein received a copy of the video in April and shared the details of it with Cass.
The report suggests that the Ravens leadership wanted this process to take place quickly and in a manner that would allow Rice to continue to remain with the team due to his relationship with the organization, the city of Baltimore and several of the Ravens business sponsors.
According to the report, Harbaugh had urged the team to release Rice following the first video and again later in the process. The report states that team leadership denied the request of their head coach.
Roger Goodell broke his silence on Friday and addressed the league's shortcomings in the handling of this situation and presented some details about the future of the league's involvement in player conduct. The timing of this report coincided with the aftermath of the press conference.
The details of the report will undoubtedly shed a veil of skepticism and criticism on the role the Ravens played in the process.
