Report: Pirates Sign Michael Martinez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Phillies fans won't have Michael Martinez to kick around anymore. Most fans are probably alright with that.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed the outfielder to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training, according to a report from SB Nation reporter Chris Cotillo.
In parts of three seasons for the Phillies, Martinez hit .187 with five home runs and an OPS of .495. Martinez is an outfielder, but played just about every position for the Phillies.
Martinez was originally signed by the Nationals as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and then drafted from the Nationals by the Phillies in the 2010 Rule 5 Draft.
