Report: Phillies Sign 17 Year-Old German Prospect To Seven-Year Contract
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Germany has never been a hotbed of Major League Baseball talent.
But the Phillies farm system has been emptied by trades over the last several years, and outfielder Julsan Kamara is thought to be the best prospect in Germany, so the team is giving it a shot.
The Phillies signed the 17-year old Kamara to a seven-year minor league deal, Stefan Muller of Mister-Baseball.com reports.
Kamara participated in the 2012 Power Showcase Home Run Derby in Florida.
During the 2012 season with Regensburg Academy, the right handed Kamara hit .390 with five home runs, and won his team's most improved player award.
