Report: Philadelphia Is One Of The Country's Most Walkable Cities
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – When it comes to walkability, Philadelphians have it pretty good.
Walk Score, a blog that covers "a range of walkability topics" such as biking, real estate and health; has determined Philadelphia to be the fourth most walkable American city.
According to the blog, Philadelphia scored a 76.5 out of 100, or "Very Walkable," on the blog's Walk Score rating system.
Walk Score says Philadelphia's most walk able neighborhoods are Center City East, followed by Center City West and Wharton/Hawthorne/Bella Vista. Schuylkill Southwest and Fishtown round out the top five.
Additionally, the article mentions Philadelphia's "walkable Passyunk, with eclectic boutiques, coffee shops, gastropubs and restaurants" as well as University City, Fairmount Park and several historic sites.
New York City came in first.
According to Walk Score, the 2014 ratings are the most sophisticated to date and are based on the website's "Street Smart Walk Score Algorithm" and analysis of over 10 billion addresses and 2 billion walking routes for 2,500 cities and more than 1,000 neighborhoods.
