Sources: Philadelphia To Host The 2017 NFL Draft
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's all but official. Sources confirmed to CBS 3 that Philadelphia will host the 2017 NFL Draft.
The announcement was expected to be made in early August. Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the official announcement would come on Thursday, September 1st.
Amazingly, in typical Philadelphia sports fashion, the Eagles do not own a first-round pick in 2017. They traded that pick to the Cleveland Browns this offseason in order to move up in the draft to select quarterback Carson Wentz. It would be the first time since 2008 the Eagles do not own a first-round pick.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Eagles announced a press conference to be held in Philadelphia on Thursday. They did not release the topic of the press conference, but said that it would include Peter O'Reilly, the senior VP of Events for the NFL, Mayor Jim Kenney, Eagles president Don Smolenski, former QB Ron Jaworski and Julie Coker-Graham, the president of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. Sources say the press conference will announce details for the draft.
The press conference is set to take place at City Hall at noon.
The NFL Draft has been held in Chicago for the past two years, after being in New York City from 1965-2014. With the Rams moving to Los Angeles, another reported possible location for a future draft, the NFL is beginning to expand the draft to other major cities.
In 2014, the NHL draft was held in Philly and commissioner Gary Bettman was booed.
So how loud will Roger Goodell get booed?
