Report: Bone In Joel Embiid's Foot Was 'Rebroken'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A couple of weeks before the NBA Draft in late June, the Sixers announced center Joel Embiid had suffered a setback.
The team made it clear, Embiid's "right foot revealed less healing than anticipated."
However, Sixers reporter Bob Cooney reports Embiid actually re-broke the same navicular bone in his right foot.
"Late last night I got a confirmation from another source that I trust, so that's kind of why it's a little bit underplayed in the paper today," Cooney told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday morning.

"From what the sources told me, it's broken again. Absolutely, you have to be nervous about it. Then this next surgery will be very interesting, find out exactly what they'll go in and do. Hopefully the Sixers will come out and speak of it after it is done."
Over the weekend, NBA analyst Charles Barkley was critical of the way the Sixers handled Embiid's injury in an interview with CSNPhilly.com's John Clark.
"I'm very concerned and I'm very disappointed in the Sixers," Barkley said, before Cooney's report was released. "I don't know all the ins and outs — I don't understand how you do that surgery and you're not checking in periodically. You wait a whole year before you realize the surgery wasn't successful.
"Maybe I'm just wrong, but it seems to me like every couple of months, they should have been doing something to check on his foot to see how it's progressing. I don't understand how you wait an entire year and then realize his foot is not healing properly. I have to blame the Sixers for that fiasco."
Clark, also before hearing Cooney's report that Embiid rebroke the bone in his foot, admitted the situation seems odd.
"When, you think about it, I believe that the Sixers have been monitoring him them the entire time," Clark said. "But it is very, very strange that all of the sudden even though he has no pain, he has no pain---and apparently no problem with it, then all of the sudden it shows that it's not healing properly."
