Report: Headphone Malfunction Caused Patriots Mistake In Super Bowl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As the Giants' Ahmad Bradshaw scored a touchdown with one minute and four seconds left in the Super Bowl, many asked the same question, "why didn't the Patriots let them score earlier?" As it turns out, they may have tried.
When speaking to 94 WIP's Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on Tuesday, Mike Lombardi of The NFL network says a headphone malfunction delayed a Patriots call from the sideline to allow the Giants to score. "He [Belichick] wanted to [let them score earlier]. All game the frequency of the headsets were going in and out. And it was always messed up. So when they sent to let them score on the first play, they didn't get the call. And it was happening on the headsets the whole time, this is fact," Florio said. "The 12 men on the field, they had a miscommunications with the headsets. You want to blame it on Madonna, but it had a lot to do with the Madonna concert, they changed the frequency at halftime."
"Their plan was ... let them score on the first play, let them get in the end zone, and the players didn't get the call, " Lombardi said.
