Report: Eagles To Sign Strath Haven, Penn State Product Dan Connor
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – NFL free-agency doesn't officially begin until 4pm today, but there's a report already about who the Eagles will sign first. Yes, it's a linebacker.
CBS Sports' Pete Prisco reports that the Eagles are likely to sign former Carolina Panthers middle-linebacker Dan Connor. Connor was a third round pick of the Panthers in 2008 out of Penn State, where he was a two-time All American. Connor was born in Wallingford, PA, and attended Strath Haven high school.
94WIP's Howard Eskin is reporting that the Eagles will not sign Connor today, and are first putting priority on signing their own free-agents. Eskin said that Connor is "not the direction they are going right now."
Connor started 11 games for the Panthers in 2011, recording 75 total tackles, 51 solo. He did not record a sack. It was the most games Connor has started in his four-year NFL career.
Middle-linebacker was a weakness during the 2011 season for the Eagles. The Wide 9 defense puts particular pressure on the position.
Comcast Sportsnet's Ray Didinger spoke yesterday about possible free-agent linebacker targets for the Eagles, and mentioned London Fletcher, Curtis Lofton and Stephen Tulloch.
