Report: Doug Collins Will Become Sixers 'Special Consultant'
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Marc Stein of ESPN reported Collins will become a "special consultant" with the franchise after this season, according to Collins' agent John Langel.
Stein then retracted his original report, and said Langel said the report is "inaccurate."
It sounds as if this is going to happen, but was announced prematurely. We'll know by Thursday at the latest.
Collins told the Sixers front office on Sunday that he does not want to return for the 2013-14 season as head coach. The two sides are likely working on a deal that will allow Collins to be paid a portion of his $4.5 million salary while retaining a position with the team. 94WIP's Howard Eskin reports that the new position will allow Collins to do work on television, but not work with another NBA team.
