Report: Chip Kelly Ruined The Eagles Holiday Party
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There has been no secret, since the firing, that Chip Kelly had issues relating to people with the Eagles. His dismissal seems like it can be boiled down to a difference in philosophy, between himself and Jeffrey Lurie, when it comes to how personal relationships link to football success.
Although Kelly touted culture as being the key factor to winning games, it was his inability to come together with the people in the building that has him looking for a new job.
One instance that exemplified Kelly's issue was the Eagles' holiday party. The party is a yearly tradition, put on by Lurie himself.
According to a report from CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Kelly played the role of Grinch for this season's party.
Lurie typically holds the party on Monday night each year. Kelly reportedly refused to attend the party because he believed the timing of it would interfere with the coaching staff's preparation for the next game.
To accommodate his coach, Lurie moved the party to a Friday afternoon at team facilities and according to the report, apologized to the team for the way the party was thrown and told others in the building that it wouldn't happen like that again in the future.
Surely, Jeffrey Lurie did not fire Kelly because he didn't have the same level of Christmas spirit as him. However, instances like that couldn't have helped.
Kelly had a lot of power with the Eagles, but he must have forgotten there was one man in the building that had more.
