Report: Chiefs Finalize Deal For Alex Smith
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – So much for Nick Foles to the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have agreed to a trade with the 49ers that will send quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City. Andy Reid was rumored to be interested in trading for Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Chiefs will give up their second round pick in the 2013 draft, and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft in exchange for Smith.
Smith was selected first overall in the 2005 NFL Draft by the 49ers. After struggling for several years, he thrived under head coach Jim Harbaugh, leading the team to a 13-3 record in 2011 and the NFC Championship game. He was replaced by Colin Kaepernick in week 11 of the 2012 season, and never got his job back.
Smith threw for 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, with a quarterback ratings of 90.7 and 104.1, respectively.
