Sixers Deny That Adam Aron Is Out As CEO
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Sixers have denied reports that Adam Aron is no longer with the team as CEO.
"Adam Aron is still CEO of the Sixers," team public relations director Mike Preston said.
Aron tweeted about the rumors late Monday. "Just minutes ago, I got off a plane from vacation in Africa and saw press reports. A la Mark Twain, rumors of my demise greatly exaggerated," he said. "I'm delighted to report that this is an immensely exciting time in my career. Moral of story: don't go on a faraway vacation!"
Reports broke on Monday from 94WIP's Howard Eskin, and later reported by Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Sixers CEO Adam Aron is "out" with the Sixers. Aron has been much quieter both on Twitter and in the press since the Sixers replaced Collins as head coach. Eskin reports that two sources confirmed that Aron is out.
This comes on the heels of a report last week that former Knicks executive Scott O'Neil is close to joining the Sixers.
Aron is also a minority owner of the Sixers as well as the CEO. His stake is said to be not substantial.
If true, this will be the second Sixers owner to leave the organization, as Memphis executive Jason Levien sold his stake last year.
