Report: 15 Percent Chance Of Cancer Repeat For Survivors

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We're definitely doing a much better job fighting cancer and new developments are clearly leading to more cancer survivors living longer periods of time. But as we find that out we're also learning that certain people are at risk for cancer to attack second time.

According to a report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, if a person survives cancer there's about a 15 percent chance of a second cancer down the road. And there is about a 2.2 fold risk of developing the same type of cancer again.

This is very important because what it tell physicians is that they need to screen for similar forms of cancer down the road to try to detect it early if it is going to occur.
