Repair Crews Restore Power To About 10,000 Customers Overnight
By Al Novack
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was a busy night for repair crews in South Jersey. Atlantic City Electric managed to restore power to some 10,000 customers overnight, bringing the total number without electricity to just over 69,000.
The utility got help from about nine other companies, including some from out of state, as far away as Florida.
For those without electricity to run their air conditioners, several cooling stations have been set up, according to Atlantic County Public Information Officer Linda Gilmore.
"One is the Dorothy Fire Hall and the other is a cooling station in Margate, where people can get relief from the heat in air conditioned facilities and they will get water."
The majority of customers should have power by some time Wednesday. But, because of very complicated repairs in areas that have yet to be cleaned up, some people won't get power back until Friday.
Atlantic City Electric restored power to a total of about 130,000 customers since the storm last Friday.
