Ed Rendell: This Wasn't Hillary's Time
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell reacted to Hillary Clinton's stunning defeat at the hands of Donald Trump in the presidential election, telling Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that he believes her time has come and gone.
"Hillary Clinton, this was not the time she should've run for President. Probably, 2008 would've a better time for her to run for President. It's right time, right place. You've got to give Donald Trump a ton of credit."
He thinks that the leadership within the Democratic party forced her onto a voting population that no longer had enough enthusiasm for her to win the White House.
"She was someone who had longtime friends and associates with the party and there was great feeling. There's an emotional tie between a lot of Democrats around the country and Hillary Clinton but that doesn't mean that she was the right candidate for a general election"
Rendell suspected that Vermont Senator and Clinton's primary challenger, Bernie Sanders, would have fared better squaring of against Trump.
"It would be interesting to think how Bernie Sanders would've done. Bernie Sanders would've lost a few Republicans who voted for Hillary because of some of his economic views but he would've fought Donald pretty hard for those disaffected, angry and frustrated workers."
